WE OFFER A TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE “ON THE CUSP” OF KINDERGARTEN READINESS.
Program Hours
Our TK students have the same program hours as the rest of our preschool: drop off from 8:30 to 9:00am, standard day pick up from 2:45 to 2:55pm, and extended day pick up until 5:30 to 5:45pm.
Students work together as a group under the guidance of an experienced early childhood teacher. Teachers follow an emergent curriculum model that includes early reading, writing, and math. The more homogenous age group promotes whole group work, increased focus and attention, and develops strong social emotional skills, facilitating a smooth transition into Kindergarten. TK students also participate in civic engagement and exploratory learning through play, as they start to perceive themselves as belonging to a larger community.
Themes are designed by teachers following students’ interests and are woven into their daily curriculum. Students actively participate in learning how to listen to each other’s ideas, support each other’s thinking and work together to produce a desired outcome.
Program Requirements
TK students must be able to go through the school day without a nap and, as walking field trips are incorporated into the program, must also be comfortable walking with a group and following instructions.
In order to be eligible for the Transitional Kindergarten program, students must turn 5 between September 1 and March 1, although we may consider later birthdays if there are any openings.
