Tinker Coop is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community makerspace, housed at The Berkeley School’s University Avenue Campus. Guided by its mission to empower young people, strengthen community connections, and cultivate student leaders through STEM, Tinker Coop seeks to create a future where all youth have the confidence and resources to become makers, innovators, and leaders in their communities.
In practice, Tinker Coop is a dynamic hub where people of all ages come together to engage in the joyful exploration of STEM, robotics, and improvisation. The Coop provides after-school and summer STEM and robotics programs for young people, along with community-building activities like family maker nights and improv classes.
While TBS students have ready access to Tinker Coop’s programming and a mutually beneficial resource-sharing relationship enriches TBS STEM instruction, both TBS and Tinker Coop welcome students from other local schools to participate in after-school and summer programming and seek out relationships with other mission-aligned organizations such as Berkeley Youth Alternatives.
